The place where a person primarily conducts their affairs or business. It’s a legal address which can be different from residenza. Residenza is one’s official residence registered with the municipality (usually where one lives habitually), while domicilio is a chosen place where one has the center of interests or exercises rights. Foreign buyers might encounter domicilio when providing an address in Italy for notifications (for instance, one can elect domicile at the office of a lawyer or notary for receiving official acts). In everyday use, domicilio often overlaps with residence, but legally one could have domicile at a workplace or another address even while residing elsewhere. In the context of lease or sale contracts, the parties sometimes declare an address for domicile for communications.
