ICI (Imposta Comunale sugli Immobili)

The former municipal property tax in Italy, in effect until 2011. ICI was an annual tax paid to the Comune based on the rendita catastale of real estate. In 2012 it was replaced (except for a brief reappearance) by the current IMU. Mention of ICI might appear in older documents or calculations. Essentially, it’s the predecessor of IMU – for historical context, Italy had ICI, then abolished it on primary residences in 2008, then reintroduced a revamped form as IMU from 2012 with different rates and rules.
