Atto di provenienza (Title Deed of Provenance)

The notarial deed or document that proves the current owner’s right over a property, such as the prior atto di compravendita (purchase deed), inheritance deed, or donation deed. When selling, the owner must provide the atto di provenienza to the buyer and notary. It traces how the property was acquired and ensures an unbroken chain of title. This deed is examined to verify ownership and check for any restrictions, mortgages, or liens. In practice, it could be a copy of the seller’s purchase deed or a notarized statement of inheritance or gift.
