Foglio Catastale (Cadastral Map Sheet)

The map sheet number in the Catasto maps that covers a particular area of the territory. The Catasto Terreni divides each comune into multiple fogli (map sheets), each containing many parcels (particelle). The foglio is like a page of the cadastral map. A property’s cadastral reference will include “Foglio X, Particella Y”. For urban properties, the map (from Catasto Terreni) shows the building footprint on a particular foglio. When you get a visura or estratto di mappa (map extract), you’ll see the foglio number identifying that section of map. Understanding foglio is mostly important for technical and legal descriptions of property in deeds or land surveys.
